Is Conflict Necessary?

Conflict is part of everyday life. It is necessary in order to be productive. How we channel and handle conflict is what is important. Check out the following scenarios and see if this might change your perspective on conflict.

Did you make coffee this morning before work? Conflict existed. You took water and added heat. You took coffee beens, and put them in a grinder. The water began to heat up which in turn flowed over the freshly ground coffee and produced HOT COFFEE. This process was filled with conflict but had a positive result.

Did you take a shower this morning? Hopefully the answer is yes. When you turn the valve on in the shower, water began to rush through the pipes and the hot water heater turned on to heat up the water. You took soap and a washcloth and cleaned your body. You took shampoo and scrubbed your head. You took a towel and dried yourself off. All of this again created friction, but with a positive result.

Did you drive a car today, ride a bus, a cab, or a bike? All of this again involved a conflict but with a positive result. Friction existed in the engine between the moving parts. Pistons move up and down, tires grip the road and rotate all with a positive result. You got where you needed to go, right? Conflict = Positive Result again.

Conflict exists all around us on a daily basis. How we channel it and use it to improve our lives is the key. When conflict arises in your relationships, channel it into a positive. Attack the problem, not the person and move your relationship forward. Work together to overcome conflict and you will strengthen your relationship. Conflict is good and necessary.
