A Day In The Life....

Ok so today was weird.

First I had a mediation where the father never showed up. He apparently never participated in the divorce, never participated in the parenting plan and simply does not show up for any scheduled visits with the couple’s child. The father was unemployed and now has a job so the two were ordered to mediation to figure out child support and calculate the arrearage. Now what do think happened? The father chose not to participate in the mediation to set forth child support, so the mother won by default and we couldn’t mediate because 2 parties must be present or mediation does not take place.

Next, I had a mediation where the mother never showed up. The father and mother had a child who turned 18 last year, but the court never ended the child support order for the child. The father has still been paying and needs to have the court order for child support to end. The father is also looking for the money that has been paid since the child turned 18 either refunded or put towards future payments. The mother never showed so the father won by default for the same reasons mentioned above.

It was an interesting (non-mediation) day @ the courthouse.
